We are both saddened and blessed to share with the Trinity Community the news that our venerable legend, Sr. Illuminata Godlewski, has passed away at 101 years of age. She died peacefully surrounded by her Sisters in community in the early morning hours of March 26, 2019.

More than 56 of her 101 years were spent ministering at Marymount/Trinity in a variety of positions. She was especially known as a teacher of what were then called the "business subjects," and she taught generations of students typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and related subjects. Along the way, Sister also taught Spanish and various levels of science, and served students as a guidance counselor. She was an ever-present and able assistant in the weekend Bingo program for many years, and worked as an assistant in the business office during the week. In the years before she retired, Sister was affectionately known as the "Nun in the Box" where she sold snacks each day in the school cafeteria.

Sr. Illuminata was one of eight children of Alex and Sophia Godlewski. She is survived by one brother, Stanley (Claudia), 17 nieces and nephews, 45 grandnieces and nephews, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis, with whom she shared her life for 85 years.

Friends may call at Golubski Deliberato Funeral Home in Garfield Heights for visitation on Friday, April 5, from 2:00-8:00 PM. Family and friends are asked to meet at St. Monica Church in Garfield Heights, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 6 at 9:30 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Donations, in Sister Illuminata's memory, may be made to her scholarship fund at Trinity, or to the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of Saint Francis, 12215 Granger Road, Garfield Heights, Ohio 44125.

Please join me in praying for Sr. Illuminata. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Sr. Shawn Lee
President
