Ohio University High School Journalism Workshop

Attention all students interested in a career in journalism. If you would like learn about and improve your news writing, editing, and design skills, then the Ohio University High School Journalism Workshop is for you. The workshop runs from July 31 to August 2. If interested, see Ms. Wisinski.  Enrollment is limited!

A Unique Experience for Students Interested in Film
The New York Film Academy is offering an exciting hands-on summer camp and high school workshop experience for students interested in directing, sound design, writing, cinematography, and editing. Students will work side by side with experienced instructors and professional filmmakers, using state of the art equipment. Space is limited. Life and Liberty Summer Institute

Hillsdale College is accepting applications for its Life and Liberty Summer Institute. This is an academically-intensive introduction to the liberal arts designed to benefit high achieving, underprivileged high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. If interested in applying, please see Mrs. Wisinski prior to the application deadline of May 30.

Science FIRST (Focusing Interest in Real-life Science and Technology)

This program is fully funded through a grant from TG Public Benefits. It is open to current juniors (Class of 2009) and targets students from groups under-represented in the sciences. Students come to Ursuline College four days a week for two weeks: July 14-17 and 21-24, 2008 for a college-level course on global issues in the sciences: energy, water, and epidemic diseases. Students also have the opportunity for an optional research project. Embedded in the course work is a college-success mentoring program, which will continue via distance networks during the students' senior year. Students return to campus for one day, January 19, 2009, Dr. Martin Luther King Day, for presentations and wrap-up. Completion of the program awards students a $500 scholarship, which they can take to the college of their choice and free tuition for college credit, transcripted to that they can take it to their college: 1 credit for the course work and an additional 1 credit if they complete the research project. Registration requires a $25 fee, which will be returned to students who complete the program. Need-based transportation is available. Pharmacy Camp

This program is open to current juniors (Class of 2009) and is hosted by the University of Toledo/Ursuline College Pharmacy Partnership. Students will be housed in residence halls on campus, from Sunday, June 15 through Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Activities include hands-on demonstrations, a field trip to a pharmacy site, and career discussions about community and clinical pharmacy, drug research and design, and pharmaceutical sales. Cost is $125 per student, which covers room and board, materials and activities. Need-based financial assistance and transportation are available to those who qualify. Summer Science Saturdays

This program is open to current freshmen and sophomores (Classes of 2010 and 2011). Students will participate for three Saturdays in a variety of activities that will explore careers in chemistry-related fields: July 12 at Ursuline with Antech Diagnostic Lab (veterinary science); July 19 field trip to the Department of Chemistry at The Ohio State University in Columbus; and July 26 field trip to The Lubrizol Corporation in Lake County. Cost is $50 per student, which covers all materials, activities, and lunches, including transportation from campus to Ohio State and Lubrizol. Need-based scholarships are available to cover the full cost.
